WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN
Solar Flux Index (SFI)

Measures radio emissions from the sun. Higher = better HF propagation. Below 70 = poor, 70-100 = fair, 100-150 = good, 150+ = excellent.

Sunspot Number (SSN)

Correlates with ionospheric ionization. More sunspots = better DX on higher bands (10m, 12m, 15m). We are currently near solar maximum.

K-Index (0-9)

Measures geomagnetic disturbance. 0-1 = quiet (best for HF), 2-3 = unsettled, 4+ = storm (HF disrupted, aurora possible on VHF).

A-Index (0-400)

Daily average of geomagnetic activity. Below 10 = quiet, 10-20 = unsettled, 20-50 = storm, 50+ = severe storm.
